The topic that we were teaching was Economics. I thought this was good for us because I felt we were a pretty money group. The story of our lesson was Danny the Dollar was a brand new dollar and needed our help teaching all about Economics. The lesson however did not go as well as I had hoped for. The note sheet that we made seemed to confuse the students. They had trouble filling it out, so our group adapted to the situation by having the two teachers who weren't teaching at the moment walk around and help them. I used choral responses for every vocabulary word to make sure to really hammer it in the student's minds. After a rocky start I feel like we eventually got into a groove, and overall had a somewhat successful lesson considering how we started.
After the lesson was finished we critiqued ourselves, and were critiqued by the rest of the class just as we did for the other groups. My main takeaway from the lesson was classroom management was definitely an issue that needed to be addressed by our group. I also believed our materials could've been designed to be a little easier for the students. This was the consensus throughout the class who was more than fair with their critiques. I found the critiques very informative, and helped me realize needs that needed to be addressed. Despite our direct instruction lesson plan not going as well as I would've liked I saw it as a valuable learning experience that will help for the rest of my teaching career. I knew that my group members saw it the same way, and couldn't wait for the opportunity to redeem myself during the inquiry lesson plan.
